Opt-out
What is opt-out?
In many countries, it is required by law that a recipient can unsubscribe from your marketing and advertising campaigns.
Opt-out enables recipients to unsubscribe from your marketing and advertising campaigns and never to receive a new message from you again.
Opt-out options
BulkGate enables you to use different options for your recipients to unsubscribe from your campaigns.
It all comes to what sender type you are going to use for your campaign (not all sender types are available in all countries) and what opt-out option you are going to choose.
You can use the following options for your recipients to unsubscribe from your campaigns:
- SMS opt-out (the recipient sends a message to a respective number to opt-out)
- Web opt-out (the recipient clicks on the link that is included in your message, fills out the form and unsubscribes from your future campaigns)
- If you send a campaign via
Own number sender ID
or a sender that enables two-way communication, you can still use the options listed above, or you can, for example, insert a text “To opt-out type STOP” and then add the unsubscribed recipients into the blacklist manually after you receive their texts
How to add an opt-out option to a campaign
To give your recipients the option to unsubscribe from your campaign:
- Create a new SMS campaign
- Reach the step where you type the message
- Click
Unsubscribe
in the typing window - Select the opt-out option
- Send out the campaign
If a recipient unsubscribes from your campaigns, his/her number goes automatically into the Blacklist. Once a recipient is in the Blacklist, no SMS messages will be sent to his/her number again.
How to use Web Opt-out?
Web opt-out
is a new way of unsubscribing from marketing and advertising campaigns. It enables recipients go online, fill the form and give the reason why they do not wish to receive more campaigns from you without replying to your message via SMS.
If you want to give your recipients the option to unsubscribe from your marketing and advertising campaigns via Web opt-out:
- Create a new SMS campaign
- Reach the step where you type the message
- Click
Unsubscribe
in the typing window - Choose
Web Opt-out
option - A short link has been added to the message
- If some of your recipients unsubscribe from your campaign, you will see it in the campaign dashboard or in the blacklist
How to use SMS Opt-out?
If you want to give your recipients the option to unsubscribe from your marketing and advertising campaigns via SMS opt-out:
- Create a new SMS campaign
- Reach the step where you type the message
- Click
Unsubscribe
in the typing window - Choose
SMS Opt-out
option - When you click out of the typing window to see how to message really looks like, make sure there is "STOP" or "STOP SMS" right before the number variable, otherwise type it yourself. This is important, so the recipient knows what to reply if he/she wants to unsubscribe from your campaigns. (for example: Hi John, check out our new electric guitars! STOP SMS +44XXXXXXXXX)
- If some of your recipients unsubscribe from your campaign, you will see it in the campaign dashboard or in the blacklist
